The Battle for Skandia, by John Flanagan

Okay, I’m on Book 4 and these Ranger’s Apprentice books are just gripping. Great (but not excessively gory) battle scenes, excellent examples of courage and tactics. And, what I think is important, our point of view is not just that of the heroes, but that of their opponents as well. Flanagan dispensed early on with the scary villain, and now is dealing with enemies whose goals differ, but who are realized with equal depth.
