Wave, by Sonali Deraniyagala

This slim volume packs a powerful punch. This 2013 memoir begins with the story of the loss of the author’s husband, children and parents in the 2004 South Asian tsunami, and it is as devastating as you would expect. But as the story progresses and we follow the arc of her grief over the years that follow, you cannot help but respect her search for meaning in the wake of her loss, her determination to incorporate her lost family into her life, and the hope she leaves us with. An exceptional read.
