Sinner, by Maggie Stiefvater

I liked this spin-off book from the Shiver trilogy even more than the original books. Our leads here are 18 and 20, and their romantic insights (and behavior) are more age-appropriate here. Ice princess Isabel, stunned by grief and damaged by her parents’ terrible marriage, makes a realistic heroine, pushing Cole away even as she falls for him. And rock star Cole is believably larger than life, putting on his famous persona even as he tries to show Isabel who he truly is. The book skews even older than Shiver – recommended for 12th grade and up, but there will be plenty of 14-year-olds falling for this one.
