An Infamous Army: A Novel of Wellington, Waterloo, Love and War by Georgette Heyer

This book is an interesting mix of Heyer’s usual Regency-era romance, but it is also a detailed historical recreation of the days up to and including the battle of Waterloo. The level of detail is astounding, to the point where I had to stop reading and pull out a map to see visually where all the key players were and refresh my dim memories about the battle. Of course when Heyer wrote this in 1937 in England, her readers had the battle much more in their national memory, and she brings all the glory and the horror of it resoundingly to life.
