Many Bloody Returns, edited by Charlaine Harris

A solid anthology, with some great short stories from the worlds of Sookie Stackhouse, Harry Dresden, the Morganville Vampires, and Women of the Otherworld. All the authors were given the topic of vampires and birthdays, and the results range from humorous to bleak, from light-hearted to disturbing. If you’re a vampire fan, this is your anthology. For 16 and up, but most are targeted at adult readers.

MacRieve, by Kresley Cole

Nice to be back with a shifter romantic hero, but he is taxed with a heroine that he can’t possibly love in Chloe Todd. I wrestled with this one–how much hostility can the heroine take before we are into a toxic relationship?–but it was certainly more satisfying than the prior two. Steamy!

Dreams of a Dark Warrior, by Kresley Cole

Cole sets herself one of her toughest challenges when she decides to reclaim a notorious villain as a romantic hero for this book. We love the heroine and wish the best for her, but I had a tough road reconciling this hero with his horrific misdeeds in this and previous books. Your mileage may vary. That said, this is Cole’s patented blend of paranormal adventure and romance – couldn’t put it down.

Kiss of a Demon King, by Kresley Cole

Another PNR in Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. In this one, a warrior gets kidnapped by a sorceress and hijinks ensue. But what I like about Cole is that her hero and heroine are very clearly drawn, and they earn their love story. Her world-building deepens from book to book, and she’s a terrific writer. If you need a sexy fantasy romance, this is your series.

Dark Desires After Dusk, by Kresley Cole

Cadeon Woede has fallen, against all his people’s rules, for Holly, a human woman, but when she suddenly becomes a Valkyrie, only Cadeon can keep her from all the other factions trying to make her their own. In contrast to the last book in this series, this one is a road trip, as Holly, taken completely out of her element, slowly sheds her inhibitions. A sultry paranormal romance for grown-ups.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night, by Kresley Cole

Our heroine in this is Mariketa the Awaited, a witch who’s not sure why she’s been awaited, but hopes some day to find out. Her inexplicable attraction to wounded werewolf Bowen seems crazy, since he’s already met the love of his life and lost her. Many new twists in the 4th Immortals book, but the steamy romance is the same. For 18 and up.
