Summers at Castle Auburn, by Sharon Shinn

This is a lovely bit of writing, my second book by the author, and it’s just as lyrical and satisfying as the first. Our heroine, Corie, is a “base-born noble” who comes from her small village to spend summers at the Castle Auburn to visit with her lovely (and fully noble) step-sister, who is engaged to the Prince. This book tracks Corie’s journey from the summer she was 14 and still swept up in the glamour of the Prince and his nobles, to the summer she is 18, when her sister is to marry the Prince. Corie makes a wonderful narrator, and as we readers draw deeper into the story, our eyes are opened to what really takes place at Castle Auburn, even as Corie’s are. For 14 and up.
